Romanian C-27J deal wins court battle

Following its huge success with its C-27J tactical transport winning the US Joint Cargo Aircraft contract last week, there was further cause to celebrate on the Alenia stand yesterday when a Romanian court upheld a contract for seven of the aircraft.
The Romanian defence ministry had awarded the contract to Alenia earlier this year, but it had been suspended after losing rival EADS Casa lodged a complaint, alleging irregularities in the bid process.

Alenia launched an appeal, and it confirmed yesterday that this had been upheld. A final contract, worth an estimated €220 million ($286 million) is now expected to be signed within the next few weeks. The aircraft will replace Romania’s Antonov An-26s.
There were a lot of other C27 signings on the stand yesterday. Flight International’s talented artist Joe Picarello was at the display signing copies of a poster featuring his cutaway drawing of the aircraft which appeared in the special Paris Airshow edition of the magazine
