Sweden accepts first NH90 transport helicopter

NH Industries used the show to announce fresh contracts for a further 50 NH90 transport helicopters, and to hand over its first of at least 18 aircraft to the Swedish armed forces.

Germany and Belgium on 18 June signed firm orders for 42 and eight NH90s respectively, taking NHI's orderbook for the type to 495 aircraft. Belgium will receive four troop transports and four NFH naval variants, with a further two as options, while Germany's order is divided between 30 for the army and 12 for the air force.

The German army currently has four NH90s in service and will double its fleet by year-end under a previous order for 80 helicopters.

Sweden will introduce 13 aircraft configured for troop transport and search-and-rescue tasks - including the aircraft on show last week - plus five for anti-submarine warfare duties. It also holds options on a further seven NH90s.
