EADS has unveiled a developmental mid-size tactical vertical take-off and landing UAV with a fully autonomous demonstrator making its debut flight in southern Germany last week.

Designated SHARC - scouting and hunting autonomous rotorcraft - the UAV uses a co-axial lift system driven by a Rotax engine.

EADS Innovation Works started development two years ago leveraging experience emerging from its former SEAMOSS VTOL UAV programme, and used a series of flying demonstrators to support development of the current demonstrator.
