PICTURE: AeroRepublica E-190 skids off runway in Colombia

An AeroRepublica Embraer 190 skidded off a runway into the sea on landing at an airport in northern Colombia on 17 July, injuring seven people.

AeroRepublica, a Bogota, Colombia headquartered airline, which is a subsidiary of Copa Airlines in Panama, says in a statement that the accident occurred at 15:10 on 17 July as the E-190 was landing at Santa Marta Island.

It was operating as flight 7330 from Cali and on landing skidded off the runway and the forward half of the aircraft ended up in the sea.

The airline says there were 54 passengers and five crew members on board. None was seriously injured but the airline says seven people were slightly injured and required medical attention.

Embraer says in a statement that there was heavy rain and wind at the time of the accident. It says it “offers its full support to aeronautical authorities in Colombia and is sending representatives to accompany the investigations leading to an explanation of the causes of this event”.

The airline has identified the aircraft involved in the accident as having the registration HK-4455.

According to Flight’s ACAS database, HK-4455 has a manufacturer’s serial number of 19000076 and entered service with the airline in January this year.
