PICTURES: Loch Lomond set to launch seaplane services from Glasgow river front

Scotland's Loch Lomond Seaplanes is set to become the first commercial operator in the UK to take-off and land from a city centre waterfront, following approval late last month (July) from the UK Civil Aviation Authority for its float-equipped Cessna Caravan.

The authority has already given the go-ahead to Loch Lomond to launch the regular on-demand charter service from the River Clyde in Glasgow, which is scheduled to start by the end of August.

The company, which operates a five-seat Cessna T206 Stationair for ad hoc charter and sightseeing tours around Scotland, plans to offer a similar service from Edinburgh within 12 months and is actively seeking to acquire a de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver to service routes from the Scottish capital.
