Korean success in Turkey
Turkey has signed a contract with Korea Aerospace Industries for 40 KT-1 basic trainers. The country's SSM procurement agency eliminated Embraer's EMB-314 Super Tucano from a two-way competition in June and entered into exclusive negotiations with KAI.
Under the programme, Turkish Aerospace Industries will undertake the manufacturing, assembly, flight test and delivery of the aircraft, which will replace the air force's Cessna T-37s. Delivery will start by 2008, with the aircraft supported by a ground-based training system to be developed by a consortium led by Turkey's Havelsan.
This is the second export success for the KT-1, which has been selected by the Indonesian air force. It is also in service with the South Korean air force.
