VIDEO: China Airlines Boeing 737-800 destroyed by fire

AChina Airlines (CAL) Boeing 737-800 has been destroyed in a fire after landing at Naha airport in southern Japan this morning (20 August).

A CAL media relations official in Taipei says the airline has confirmed that all 165 people on board disembarked safely before the fire destroyed the aircraft.

On board the five-year-old aircraft were 157 passengers as well as six flight attendants and two pilots.

Reports quoting Japanese transport officials say the fire appears to have started on the left side of the aircraft after an uneventful flight and some are reporting that it broke out after a large bang was heard in the left-hand CFM International CFM56-7B26 engine.

CAL says it is too early to say what happened.

The aircraft was operating as flight CI120 from the Taiwanese capital Taipei. It touched down at Naha at around 10:30.
