VIDEO: Loch Lomond Seaplanes launches air taxi service

The UK's Loch Lomond Seaplanes has officially launched Europe's first city centre waterfront air-taxi service.

The regular on-demand charter service between the River Clyde in Glasgow and Oban on the west coast of Scotland uses a nine-seat float-equipped Cessna 208 Caravan.

Loch Lomond owner and managing director David West hopes to launch similar services across Scotland, where the inhospitable roads, coupled with a plethora of lakes, is stimulating demand for the seaplane service.

The company, which operates a five-seat Cessna T206 Stationair for ad hoc charter and sightseeing tours around Scotland, plans to offer a similar service from Edinburgh within 12 months and is looking to acquire a de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver to service routes from the Scottish capital.
