VIDEO: Watch exclusive images from the cockpit of the new Alenia Aeronautica C-27J Spartan as it descends and lands at Rome Ciampino airport

Flight technical reporter Rob Coppinger took the video from the jump seat in Alenia Aeronautica's own C-27J Spartan as Alenia test pilots Mario Mutti (occupying the left seat) and Giovanni Ammoniaci flew the winner of the US military's Joint Cargo Aircraft (JCA) competition into Rome Ciampino airport on 21 September following a Boeing 787 briefing at the Italian aerospace company's Grottaglie based-subsidiary Alenia Composites, a composites fuselage manufacturing site.

The JCA acquisition sought to fill the tactical airlift void between cargo helicopters and the Lockheed Martin C-130J transport.
