Turkey has launched a test campaign to support its acquisition of 50 AgustaWestland T129 attack helicopters, using a modified army Bell AH-1S Cobra to fly a new mission computer developed by Aselsan, Tubitak and Turkish Aerospace Industries, and to fire Rafael's Spike air-to-surface missile - a candidate weapon for the aircraft.
Ankara signed a $1.2 billion contract in September to buy the T129, a Turkish version of AgustaWestland's A129 Mangusta equipped with new avionics equipment and more powerful engines.
