PICTURE: TAM takes delivery of first Airbus A340

Brazil’s TAM has taken delivery of its first Airbus A340.

TAM, which now operates a fleet of 10 A330s and three Boeing MD-11s on long-haul routes, plans to use the Airbus A340-500 to launch a Sao Paulo-Frankfurt service at the end of this month. The aircraft is equipped with 225 economy class and 42 business class seats.

The fast-growing carrier also has Boeing 777-300ERs and Airbus A350 XWBs on order.

The A340 was delivered today after the aircraft was repainted in Brazil by VEM Maintenance & Engineering, the former Varig maintenance unit which is now owned by TAP Portugal.
