Asian Spirit YS-11 overshoots runway in central Philippines

An NAMC YS-11 operated by Philippine carrier Asian Spirit reportedly overshot a runway on landing on 2 January in the central Philippines but there were no injuries.

The Japanese-made turboprop aircraft was operating a regular flight between the capital Manila and the central island of Masbate’s small airport.

It skidded off the runway on landing but airline executives are quoted by local media as saying there was no major damage to the aircraft and none on board was injured.

They say strong winds were encountered during the landing at Masbate early on 2 January.

On board were 43 passengers, two pilots and two flight attendants.
