Continental Airlines has received its first of 27 Boeing 737-900ERs, becoming the first airline in the Americas to operate this higher-capacity, longer-range derivative of the 737 narrowbody.

The 173-seater has 20 first and 153 economy seats and is equipped with blended winglets. The carrier this year expects to take delivery of an average of two to three new 737s per month, including a mix of 737-900ERs and 737-800s. To date, eight customers have placed orders for 169 737-900ERs.
