Investigators to detail initial BA 777 crash findings within days

UK investigators expect to detail initial findings about the British Airways Boeing 777 landing accident at London Heathrow within 48 hours, and release a preliminary report in 30 days’ time.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) adds that it is receiving assistance from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which has assigned a representative to the inquiry, and is also being supported by engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce.

No-one was seriously injured following yesterday’s accident during which the 777, arriving from Beijing, landed short of runway 27L. There are increasing suggestions, still unconfirmed, that the twin-jet suffered a sudden loss of thrust during the approach.
