Israel's Aeronautics has unveiled its Dominator 2 "strategic" unmanned air vehicle, based on the Diamond DA42 Twin Star general-aviation aircraft
Powered by two Thielert diesel engines, the all-composite vehicle has a wing span of 13.5m (44.3ft) and a maximum take-off weight of 2,000kg (4,400lb).
Aeronautics' single-engined Dominator medium-altitude, long-endurance UAV has an 8m span and 400kg payload. The Israeli company also produces the Aerostar tactical UAV, 16 of which were sold to an unidentified CIS country in January for $30 million.
Diamond Aircraft and Rheinmetall Defence Electronics offer an optionally piloted surveillance and reconnaissance version of the type-certificated DA42 called OPALE. This has been tested carrying Selex's PicoSAR synthetic-aperture radar.
