Singapore 2008: Singapore Airshow reaches out to Asia

Next week, Singapore plays host to the world's aerospace industry, with more than 800 companies taking part in the biennial air show. The event, second in size this year only to Farnborough, has a new location - a purpose-built site with a 40,000m2 exhibition hall - and new name, the Singapore Airshow. Previously know as Asian Aerospace, the show is now run under the new name by the city state itself, as a joint venture between the civil aviation authority and the Defence Science and Technology Agency. The event has long been a focus for the region's big airline and defence contests and a chance for aerospace companies to form links with Asia's burgeoning industry. In the following pages we explore issues facing the aviation and aerospace sectors in South-East Asia since the 2006 show, and look at what lies in store for the region.
