Avianca-linked Synergy commits to 10 A350 XWBs

Colombian flag-carrier Avianca’s holding company, Synergy Aerospace, has signed a memorandum of understanding to acquire 10 Airbus A350 XWB aircraft and place options on another 10.

The commitment for the A350-800s follows last year’s decision by Synergy to take 47 Airbus A320-family jets and 10 A330-200s. Synergy also ordered 10 Boeing 787s for Avianca.

“This new order consolidates our fleet renewal and expansion programme,” says Synergy Aerospace president German Efromovich.

Neither Airbus nor Synergy has indicated for which carriers the A350s are destined. Synergy is linked not only with Avianca but several other carriers in South America including Colombia’s SAM, Brazil’s Ocean Air and Ecuador’s VIPSA.

A350 XWB aircraft are only available with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines. No delivery date has been given for the aircraft.
