Finnair orders three more Embraer 190s

Oneworld alliance airline Finnair has ordered another three Embraer 190 regional aircraft which will be delivered in 2010-11.

The Helsinki-based flag-carrier is taking the jets to prepare for rising short-haul traffic as its Asian network develops.

It already has an order for 10 Embraer 190s, seven of which have been introduced. Another aircraft is to arrive this year and the remaining pair in 2009.

Finnair also has 10 of the smaller Embraer 170 in its fleet.

“Through the order we have ensured the availability of capacity under present conditions,” says Finnair scheduled passenger traffic vice-president Henrik Arle.

“The manufacturers’ order books are full for years ahead and we forecast that our European traffic will grow in the wake of Asian traffic.”

Finnair is undergoing a fleet renewal which also involves its long-haul Boeing MD-11s being replaced by Airbus A330, A340 and A350 XWB aircraft.
