The US National Transportation Safety Board is investigating why a United Airlines Airbus A320 operated United Airlines subsidiary Ted veered off a runway in Jackson Hole, Wyoming on 25 February.
The aircraft came to rest on its landing gear "at about a 90-degree angle to the runway in snow about three feet deep". All 125 occupants evacuated the aircraft via the emergency slides, one of which did not deploy, says the NTSB.
Flying conditions at the time were favourable, with calm winds, 18.5km (10nm) visibility and an overcast cloud deck at 3,200ft (968m) above the airport.
