Aircraft interiors EXPO: Reading the market for all scenarios

Schott is showcasing a selection of its reading lights, as well as flat panel lights, starlights, fibre optics and side emitting fibres.

“The market is moving to luxury and comfort for the passenger – more of a lounge style.  There is a drive to get rid of the old technical style and change to a modern style, there’s a lot of glossy colours coming through,” says Schott’s Gerhard Zwickel.

“New cabin designs require lighting scenarios, and all of our products are plug and play,”

New products at the show include flat panel LED lights that are only 6mm thick.  Schott says that the combination of LEDs and fibre optics is especially promising when it comes to new lighting concepts for interiors.

“The fact that fibre optic cables can carry light means that the actual light source no longer needs to be anywhere near where the light is needed.  So light can be brought to pretty much any area of the plane.  Even in areas where it wouldn’t have been possible to lay conventional cables,” adds Zwickel.
