MAS delays A380, orders 737-800s

Malaysia Airlines has substantially pushed back the delivery dates for the six Airbus A380s it has on order.

Originally due for delivery between January 2007 and December 2008, delays in the A380 programme meant it was no longer able to receive the aircraft as scheduled. The airline has now reached an agreement with Airbus for deliveries of its Rolls-Royce Trent 900-powered aircraft to take place between January and August 2011.

There had been some uncertainty over whether MAS will continue with the A380 order, after it had said publicly it was struggling to fill its Boeing 747-400s. But last year MAS recorded a net profit of 851.4 million ringgit ($267 million) and it has just ordered 35 737-800s for delivery in September 2010, with options for 20 more.
