No survivors after Sudanese An-32 crashes in Moldova

No survivors are expected after a Sudanese-operated Antonov An-32B crashed while attempting to land at the Moldovan capital Chisinau on 12 April.

Moldova’s civil aviation administration says the aircraft was operated by Sudan’s Kata Air Transport.

The aircraft, carrying eight occupants from Moldova and Ukraine, crashed at 22:17 while trying to land at Chisinau.

Local reports, citing the Moldovan interior ministry, state that the aircraft had departed Chisinau for Khartoum, via Antalya, but was returning because of a faulty transponder.

They add that the twin-engined aircraft’s wing struck navigation infrastructure located near the runway.

Meteorological data at the time of the accident shows Chisinau Airport was experiencing mist with 3,800m visibility but no other significant weather.
