Minor London City ramp collision damages BA and Lufthansa RJs

Investigators in the UK are assessing damage to two BAE Systems Avro RJs after a minor collision on the ramp at London City Airport today.

The aircraft involved were a British Airways CityFlyer RJ100, and a Lufthansa CityLine RJ85.

A spokeswoman for London City Airport says the damage, in the region of the jets’ tails, is thought to be “superficial” but adds that the aircraft have been taken out of service for inspection.

Only the Lufthansa aircraft, bound for Munich, was occupied at the time. The BA jet was parked but was due to operate a service to Frankfurt.

None of the passengers or crew members involved was injured, says the spokeswoman. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is to open an inquiry into the incident.
