Thai Airways International has selected the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine to power the six Airbus A380s it has on firm order.
A spokeswoman says from Bangkok that the Star Alliance carrier’s board met yesterday and selected the Trent 900 over the Engine Alliance GP7200.
The spokeswoman says the carrier’s first A380 is due for delivery around the middle of 2010.
Thai placed its order for six A380s in 2004. Deliveries were originally due in 2008 and 2009 but they were pushed back as a result of to delays in the programme.
The carrier’s existing widebody aircraft from Airbus and Boeing are powered by engines from all three major manufacturers, General Electric, Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce.
