EBACE 2008: BAE 146 conversion programme on a high

BAE Systems is promoting its Avro Business Jet (ABJ) at EBACE. Salesman Andy Whelan says: “Market interest in the aircraft, which is what we call corporate versions of the BAe 146/Avro RJ family, is at an all time high and sales of the aircraft have taken off in the past twelve months.”

There are now 23 BAe 146/Avro RJs in service or being converted for a variety of corporate roles – some 6% of total production. BAE Systems has identified three different market sectors for the ABJ: Private use; business/corporate; and corporate shuttle/executive charter.

Whelan says the company is targeting several areas for potential ABJ sales or leases, including: “VIP operators of ageing converted smaller jet airliners, some of which are around 40 years old; high net worth individuals/entrepreneurs; large corporations with a demanding travel profile; charter companies; and airlines with a requirement for an executive operation.”
