Korean Air (KAL) is to temporarily suspend passenger services on five international routes and reduce frequency on several others to cope with high fuel prices.

A spokesman for the SkyTeam alliance carrier says from Seoul that the cuts will be imposed from early June to the middle of July.

He says the airline will temporarily halt services on four South Korea-China routes, specifically Busan-Xian, Cheongju-Shanghai, Daegu-Beijing and Seoul-Sanya, as well as one South Korea-Vietnam route, specifically Busan-Hanoi.

In addition, he says the carrier will reduce frequency on 12 routes, such as Seoul to Cebu, Dallas, Guam, Jinan, Las Vegas, Oita, Siem Reap and Tianjin. Smaller aircraft will also be used on four other routes.

The spokesman says the cuts are intended to help KAL cope with high fuel prices, adding that there may also be cuts to dedicated cargo services.
