CFM offers engine history tracking Following what it claims to be demand from the airlines, CFM has launched its TRUEngine designation to help the industry more accurately to appraise used CFM56 engines by serial number and - based on data currently not widely accessible - to enhance their resale value.

To qualify for TRUEngine status, the engine configuration, overhaul practices, spare parts and repairs must be consistent with CFM requirements for that engine model. In addition, all maintenance must comply with CFM’s manuals and other maintenance recommendations.

CFM data records that jet engines are typically in service for more than a quarter of a century and change hands at least once in their operational life. The engine’s configuration, material content, maintenance history and supportability impact on its overall value as it changes ownership.

In addition to providing data for airlines, this initiative is also seen as a shot across the bows of other PMAs - and even OEMs such as P&W, which offer spares and service for CFM56-3 engines – interested in servicing, repairing and producing spare parts for CFM’s family of engines.
