FARNBOROUGH 2008: TacView military EFB selected for C-130J

Lockheed Martin announced here yesterday it had selected the TacView portable mission display from Esterline CMC Electronics as a standard fit on the C-130J military transport.

Essentially a ‘ruggedised’ electronic flight bag with added functions to meet military requirements, TacView is designed to deliver information to the crew via secure tactical datalink and to cut the amount of paper in the cockpit by displaying charts and other documents. It can be used by mission specialists, loadmasters and troop commanders as well as by the flight crew.

TacView can be mounted on the aircraft’s control yoke and can be used on night operations as the display is readable through night-vision goggles. It is controlled via either a touch screen or large bezel-mounted buttons that can be felt through gloves.

Applications that can be hosted on TacView include the US joint precision air drop system, the FalconView mission planner, digital moving map, real-time weather graphics, sensor imagery and aeronautical charts.

Montreal-headquartered Esterline CMC Electronics has also been selected to supply a civil-certificated GPS satellite navigation sensor for both line-fit and retro-fit on the C-130J. The IntegriFlight GPS landing system sensor will provide crews with highly accurate position information from departure to the approach to landing.
