OSHKOSH 2008: Evolution evolves with Datalink Weather

Aspen Avionics is integrating Datalink Weather with the Evolution Flight Display system.

The new Evolution Weather Receiver will deliver the full suite of XM WX satellite weather aviation products including NEXRAD radar graphics, IR satellite cloud cover at a range of altitudes, winds aloft graphics, METARs, and TAFs.

“The receiver works with a one, two or three-tube Evolution Flight Display system in a certified, panel-mount solution for about the same price as a hand-held back-up GPS,” says Doug Cayne, vice president of marketing, Aspen Avionics.

The receiver will be available for sale as part of a new Evolution system or as an upgrade starting in early second quarter 2009, at a suggested retail price of $2,495. When bought as part of a new EFD1000 MFD system, the receiver can be added for an additional $2,000. Special pricing is available for current and new owners of the EFD1000 Pro PFD.

“Safety is a primary concern for all pilots and certified datalink weather solutions have, until now, been priced beyond the reach of many GA aircraft owners,” says John Uczekaj, president and CEO of Aspen Avionics. “Combining affordable datalink weather with the other Evolution hazard awareness capabilities gives pilots a cost-effective total picture on their primary displays.”

Aspen Avionics, a recipient of the Red Herring 100 North America award in 2008 for companies with advanced technologies, is sponsoring the North 40 Welcome Center at AirVenture to cool down and rehydrate arriving pilots through August 3. Aspen’s Cirrus SR22, with an EFD1000 Primary Flight Display installed, is on display next to the Welcome Center tent.
