Scottish low-fare operator FlyGlobespan has been fined £5,000 ($9,800) plus costs after admitting two charges of breaching air transport safety regulations.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority prosecuted the airline under the Air Navigation Order after it operated a Boeing 757 on a transatlantic route last year with its engine-pressure ratio indicators inoperative.

While the airline admitted the charges before magistrates in London last month, sentencing was deferred to a crown court in the capital today. A spokesman for the CAA says the judge imposed a fine of £2,500 for each offence plus £4,280 in costs.

Edinburgh-based FlyGlobespan, in its defence, had claimed the incident was a mistake rather than deliberate violation.
