Armadillo test fires rocket engine, Velocity XL integration

In this exclusive photograph from the Rocket Racing League (RRL), Armadillo Aerospace's liquid oxygen (LOX), methane engine is test fired while integrated with the RRL Santa Fe Racing team's Velocity XL aircraft, which it will power for the races. Armadillo is developing the LOX/methane engine for its own vertical take-off, vertical landing suborbital passenger flights. The firing was before flight trials that RRL would not confirm had begun. If successful the Velocity XL will make its public debut at the 45th National Championship Air Races and Air Show in Reno, Nevada in September.
