NBAA 2008: Ovation takes a bow for Honeywell

Honeywell (Booth 2000) unveiled a completely redesigned cabin management system called Ovation Select at NBAA, and the company is calling it the “ultimate total connectivity solution”

“Ovation brings business jets the same quality all-digital HD systems that people have at home,” says William Rowell, manager, technical sales, cabin management systems, Honeywell.

Integrating entertainment and connectivity technology, Ovation Select delivers surround-sound audio, high definition video (HD1080p) and digital communication by Ethernet backbone throughout the cabin. Honeywell has incorporated all the digital interfaces needed to connect high-speed satellite communications and consumer electronics - including iPods, MP3 players, Apple TV and HD gaming systems, which plug in via convenient docking stations.

“Ovation Select’s key features include a radically redesigned user interface to make passenger in-flight connectivity seamless and easy – whether you’re connected via your BlackBerry or laptop, using your iPod or watching a Blu-ray movie,” notes Rob Wilson, president, Honeywell Business and General Aviation.

Control of the cabin environment is achieved through icon-based, touch-screen passenger interfaces with a similar iPod look and feel across full-size monitor, drink-rail-mounted personal control units, and wireless hand-held remote. The interfaces also control mood lighting, seats, temperature, galley and window shade controls.

Also available is the optional JetMap moving map application, which provides high-resolution 3-D terrain maps and US street level maps, as well as news, weather, sports and business updates.

Honeywell developed Ovation Select with partners Rosen Aviation for widescreen HD display technology and Alto Aviation for high-end audio technology. The complete system will be available in late 2009. “Ovation was designed with an open architecture to allow scalability with next-generation audio and video devices,” adds Rowell.
