A former naval air station in Maine could become a major business aviation cluster if the state’s department of economic and community development (DECD) and a leading completions house have anything to do with it.

John Richardson, commissioner of Maine DECD, says the former NAS Brunswick will be an ideal location for aviation business. The DECD is working with Oxford Aviation, which has become the first user of the facility with what president Jim Horowitz describes as its “newest, most sophisticated and most capable facility in its 21 year history”

A team representing the state, the operators and the developers are visiting a number of NBAA exhibitors to introduce the Brunswick proposals.

“The redevelopment of the military redevelopment zone reduces the tax burden for businesses through a variety of exemptions. There are various state and federal incentives available,” Richardson says.

There are already large hangars available at the site plus two 8,000ft runways.

“This is an excellent opportunity for general and corporate aviation as well as MROs and aircraft manufacturers,” says Steve Levesque, executive director of developer MRRA.
