NBAA 2008: Long-haul comfort from Aeristo

With the number of ultra-long range business jets growing, one exhibitor, Aeristo (Booth 955), has come up with an idea that will help pilots beat long-mission fatigue.

Aeristo has launched its Aerovit luxury seat. “Aerovit puts the pelvis and hips in gentle motion,” says president Christian A. Schmidt. “It has air pads below the seat surface which helps promote bloody circulation in upper thighs, stimulate relaxation of the spinal and back muscles, replenish fluids in the vertebral discs and relieve back discomfort. This will help pilots in particular feel more refreshed.”

The company, based in Fort Worth, Texas, deals in cabin comfort and specialises in aviation leathers. “We have more than 120 colours of aircraft leather and sheepskins in stock and ready to ship,” says VP Ulli Schmidt. “Ninety percent of our customers are corporate, so we like to give them choice. Customers can choose an optic and decide on which colour they want, if we don’t have it in stock we get it made up, it’s amazing how many colours can still be made, we are constantly adding new ones,” says Schmidt.

Sheepskin is mainly used within the cockpit as it is longer lasting and deemed a luxury feature. “We use a curly hair structure with heavy tufts, which makes it strong. This way the skin doesn’t matt, making good airflow for the pilots. In summer it is cooler and in the winter warmer,” says Schmidt. “The fabric industry is setting the tone. It’s easier to match leather to fabric than fabric to leather.”

The company also provides customers cleaning kits which consist of a cleaning wipe, conditioner wipe and ink stick. Customers include Embraer, Gulfstream, Bombardier and Pilatus. Delegates can drop by Aeristo’s booth and see leather samples and also pillows made of sheepskin in a range of colours.
