China's latest turboprop airliner, the Xian MA600, completed a 20min maiden flight on 9 October, kicking off the certification effort towards Chinese approval in 2009. The first flight took place at the manufacturer's airport at Yanliang near Xian. Just one MA600 is needed for the test programme because the new model is very similar to Xian's existing MA60 turboprop - itself loosely based on the Soviet Antonov An-24 turboprop. The MA600 is due to appear at China's Zhuhai air show in early November.
