Boeing tests recovery training on pilots

Boeing reported to the Flight Safety Foundation International Aviation Safety Seminar the results of a controlled test it carried out on a group of more than 30 pilots from all backgrounds to determine whether upset recovery training has a beneficial effect on pilot ability to recover effectively from unusual or extreme attitudes. Almost without exception, said Boeing's senior safety pilot Capt Bill Roberson, upset recovery training does have a measurably favourable effect that lasts for some months. Roberson also remarked that it was not possible to predict, from a pilot's background, which of them would naturally get the best scores in the tests. The pilot who got the best pre-training result was a low-hour pilot with a purely civilian training background and no aerobatic experience.
