FLEET WATCH: Orders October 2008

Airliner net orders came in at -36 in October as 35 new orders were offset by 71 cancellations, with another 8 swaps.

Ryanair took over orders for 10 737s, Brit Air ordered six CRJs while Croatia Airlines and Uzbekistan Airways ordered four A319 and 767 types respectively. China Southern Airlines swapped seven A319 orders for A321 while Qatar Airways swapped an A319 for a A320. US business aviation management company Petters Aviation has cancelled six A318 Elite ACJs but the major cancellation for October came from collapsed US low-cost start-up Skybus Airlines with 65 A319.

Boeing led the way with 14 net new orders for the month followed by Airbus and Bombardier with 9 each. Embraer and Dornier took two and one respectively.

Net narrowbody orders totalled 16 in October, led by 10 737s which all came from Ryanair while widebody net orders came in at 9.

The worldwide airliner backlog at the end of October was 8,542 orders, down 116 from the previous month.
