Zambian Airways has suspended all operations until further notice amid suggestion that it has been struggling with high fuel costs.
The Lusaka-based airline operated domestic Zambian services to Chipata, Kitwe, Livingstone, Mfuwe and Ndola, as well as on-demand regional and international charters.
Although Zambian Airways' headquarters could not immediately be reached for comment, a representative at the airline's Johannesburg office says: "All flights have been suspended until further notice."
Local media reports say the suspension has been driven by high fuel costs and debts, coupled with a need to restructure the airline's operations.
According to Flight's ACAS database, Zambian Airways' fleet consists of two Boeing 737-200s and two Raytheon Beechcraft 1900Ds.
