Airbus secured net orders for 777 aircraft over the course of 2008, confirming that it easily overtook rival Boeing's total of 662.
The figure gave the European manufacturer a 54% share of the market in terms of airframes.
Airbus declared its total at a briefing in Toulouse today, and disclosed that it had delivered a record 483 aircraft, an increase of 30 on the 2007 figure of 453.
The airframer had predicted it would achieve deliveries of over 470 aircraft last year. Boeing delivered 375.
Airbus' orders last year included nine A380s, 138 A330/340s, 163 A350s and 472 A320-family aircraft. Gross orders reached 900 jets.
