Canadian regional aircraft manufacturer Bombardier has delivered the first Q400 NextGen turboprop to Norwegian regional carrier Wideroe.

Wideroe accepted the aircraft - the first of six on firm order - at Bombardier's Q400 delivery centre at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

The turboprop features LED lighting, new ceiling panels, 'dished' window sidewalls to maximize light entering through the window, and larger overhead luggage bins.

In October 2007, Wideroe parent SAS Group chose to eliminate the standard Q400 from its fleet following three landing accidents in quick succession.

However, the company later opted to acquire the upgraded NextGen version for its Wideroe and Air Baltic arms.

Noting that the Q400 NextGen is "another step in the continuing evolution of this extraordinary aircraft", Bombardier Commercial Aircraft president Gary Scott says: "We find it very fitting that the first Q400 NextGen aircraft is going to such a long-time and valued customer such as Wideroe."
