Two South American carriers have signed up with GE engine maintenance solutions for the company's OnPoint support programme.

Brazilian carrier TAM has signed a memorandum of understanding for a 12-year, $345 million agreement covering repair and overhaul of GE90-115Bs powering 10 of the carrier's Boeing 777-300ERs. Meanwhile LAN Cargo of Chile signed a similar 12-year MoU with GE for repair and overhaul of GE90-110Bs powering four 777 freighters, valued at $135 million

"GE's GE90-115B engines have demonstrated outstanding fuel burn and low emissions, which are very important to our airline," says TAM chief executive David Barioni Neto. "This OnPoint agreement will ensure our GE90-115B engines remain in top condition with high-quality OEM service and material."

The agreement expands GE's long-standing relationship with TAM, which includes maintenance of CF6-80C2 and CFM56-C engines. CFM is a joint venture between GE and Snecma. GE also secured a new five-year agreement with Air Italy covering four CFM56-3B and six CF6-80C2 engines powering Boeing 737s and 767s.
