Thai confirms A380 delivery delayed until 2012

Thai Airways International confirms that Airbus has agreed to delay the delivery of its six Airbus A380s until 2012.

The carrier was due to receive its first A380 in October 2010, says a Thai spokeswoman.

However, it has delayed the deliveries due to the challenging economic situation and cash-flow problems at the airline. This comes as Thai embarks on a financial turnaround plan after losing 21.3 billion baht ($588 million) in 2008.

It even considered cancelling the order or switching to the Airbus A350-1000. However, it decided against switching the order as the delivery dates are too late. Airbus aims to have the first delivery of the A350-1000 in 2015.
