Australia's Pacific Wings has received approval from the Australian government to fly New Caledonia.

The carrier is authorized to operate two Boeing 737-300 services per week on the route, says Australia's International Air Services Commission.

The carrier is required to operate one weekly flight no later than 31 April 2010 and two weekly flights no later than 1 November 2011, it says.

On 10 June Geoffrey Bowmaker, the former CEO of Nauruan carrier Our Airline, said he was establishing Pacific Wings using a wet-leased Boeing 737-300 from Our Airline.

"We are looking closer to October to start flying and tickets will potentially go on sale in July," Bowmaker said.

Pacific Wings' official company address is in Melbourne but the business will actually operate from Brisbane where Our Airline has its aircraft based, he added.
