NBAA 09: Rolls-Royce unveils next generation AE3007 for Embraer

Rolls-Royce yesterday unveiled the newest member of its AE3007 engine family, the AE3007A2 for the Embraer Legacy 650 large-cabin business jet, an aircraft also revealed yesterday here in Orlando.

Based on the AE3007A1E that powers the Legacy 600, the 9,020lb-thrust (40.2kN) A2 engine features a newly redesigned fan with 22 compound swept blades, down from 24 on the A1E, with a new bypass vane and core vane. Together the changes result in a 6-12% higher altitude take-off and climb capability compared with the Legacy 600, says the engine maker.

Combined with airframe modifications, the new engines allow the Legacy 650 to deliver 3,900nm (7,225km) range, an increase of 500nm over the Legacy 600, based on four 200lb (90kg) passengers and NBAA IFR reserves.

Certification for the engine is expected in the second half of 2010, as is the entry-into-service for the Legacy 650. Embraer completed first flight of two Legacy 650s, one prototype and one pre-series aircraft, in September.
