PICTURE: Poland receives loaned C-130E from USA

US Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) representatives handed over a Lockheed Martin C-130E at Poland's Warsaw Okecie airport on 2 November, with the tactical transport being loaned to the nation amid delays to a refurbishment programme.

Poland's air force received its first of five secondhand C-130Es in March 2009, but delays to its subsequent examples have led to the USAFE loaning one of its aircraft free of charge for 11 months.

Within the coming days the loaned C-130E will receive temporary Polish air force insignia, including the tactical registration 1506. It will be used to train flightcrews from the service's Powidz-based 14th Air Transport Squadron, and for air transport tasks.

Poland's next modernised C-130E is due for delivery in January 2010.
