In July 2010 China plans to open Ngari Gunsa Airport, Tibet's fourth commercial airport and one of the highest airports in the world.
Construction has entered its final phase, says China's state-run media, adding that the airport apron, runway and terminal building have been built and the weather radar installed.

The architecture of the airport, which is in western Tibet, is in traditional Tibetan style. It is 4,272m (7,500ft) above sea level.
