The General Electric and Pratt & Whitney-led Engine Alliance GP7200 engine was installed for the first time on an Airbus A380 ultra-large airliner yesterday.

The first GP7200 was installed on A380 MSN009 on the outboard left position (pictured below). Airbus says the installation went "without any major problem".

The engine received certification from the US Federal Aviation Administration in early January and Airbus aims to start flight tests of the GP7200-powered MSN009 in April.

The GE-P&W joint venture GP7000 programme also includes MTU, Snecma and TechSpace Aero as partners.
