Aircraft orders in Europe broke a record today. Eclipse Aviation sold 180 Eclipse 500 very light jets through Luxembourg-based distributor ETIRC Aviation, the largest number of aircraft in a single order since the end of the Second World War.
ETIRC and Turkey-based Atasay are establishing a joint venture company to operate the jets in a new air taxi service.
The $270 million deal includes 120 firm orders with options for 60 aircraft and delivery by the end of 2009, adding to the 40 orders already held by ETIRC. The yet unnamed taxi service could begin by year-end.
