Flight International has obtained exclusive images of the UK Royal Air Force’s fifth Boeing C-17, as the strategic transport nears factory completion at the manufacturer’s Long Beach site in California.
Boeing expects to roll out aircraft UK-5 in early January, and to achieve first flight later the same month. “Delivery is scheduled for late February”, it confirms.

The aircraft will join the four C-17s already in use by the RAF’s Brize Norton-based 99 Sqn, which will also receive a sixth example in mid-2008 under an approximately £130 million ($267 million) deal concluded in early December.

To be diverted from its intended delivery to the US Air Force, aircraft UK-6 is also already in build to Boeing’s Lot 19 production standard.
