Iraq adds 4 firm, 10 options to CRJ900 deal

Bombardier announced today that Iraq government firmed four options on CRJ900 NextGen regional jets, plus added new options 10 more roughly 90-seat jets.

The announcement raises total orderbook with Bombardier to 10 firm orders and 10 options. The deal to buy the first six CRJ900s was announced on 13 March.

If all options are exercised, the total value of all orders placed to date would rise to more than $810 million at list prices.

Delivery of the aircraft, however, may be risky for the Iraqi buyers. The Kuwait government has raised the threat of impounding the aircraft to settle a financial dispute dating to the 1990 invasion by Iraq’s army.

The deal adds to a flurry of order activity by the Iraqi government since last month. Boeing also has confirmed signing a firm order for 10 787s and 30 737s.

No details about the selected engine or avionics suppliers were immediately available.
